Totally happens in C code too. Maybe even more often.
Just today had proxmox not working because of invalid localhost line in /etc/hosts.
Or had problem with logging in KDE because /etc/shadow was owned by root.
In both cases only incomprehensible error messages. Luckily solutions was googleable.
