They partly owned MPEG patents and made a ton on off patent trolling streaming companies… the the point they made their own (m-GO) and when that dried up the money gun stopped brrrrrrring.

Several years ago Technicolor split into separate technology and media production businesses. TFA is about the media unit; the tech part now operates under the name Vantiva.
