We live in a representative democracy, and that's exactly what the US Congress implements, if imperfectly. The "majority" is not really a relevant point. If you truly believe the US is an authoritarian government, I would recommend therapy.

I would recommend you take a peak outside your window and see what the USA government is doing to it's people and the peoples all around the world.
