Re:Ask HN: Are you still using your Vision Pro? by giobox on Wednesday June 12, 2024 @07:40PM (#40664372)
Considering its 1/7th the price of Vision Pro, I don't think Quest 3 gets the credit it deserves. The quest 3 even supports use cases Apple's headset simply won't anytime soon - high end VR PC games via the link cable or wifi etc. High end PC games are IMO one of the few areas in VR that is genuinely exciting - sim racing especially, or games like Half Life Alyx.

While its screens obviously aren't as good as the Apple unit, it does offer better FoV too. It also fills the "hog cranking" usecases (as discussed earlier :P) if this is important to you. Again, 1/7th the price. The hand tracking is even pretty reasonable too.

You can also pick up the Quest 2, which is still not that bad frankly, for $199 right now. Sure the fidelity is not as good as Apple can do, but the core of the VR experiences is all there - especially at 1/17th the price. My experiences with most people and VR is that the novelty wears fast - it might be better for some to just be 200-500 dollars outta pocket once bored than 3500.
