I really want to know how AGI is worth it, in Mr. Altman's estimation. Well, beyond the fact that he'd own a stake in the company that sells it.
The best application of LLMs and other current state-of-the-art technologies seem to be in domain-specific uses. It does displace some jobs but doesn't present an existential threat to society. If you make an AGI, it's going to break a lot of what people consider their reality, and that generally doesn't turn out well.
