Perhaps he feels it’s reasonable to push back against the destruction of language, ethics, and science to support the feelings of a small number of individuals, the vast majority of who’s “identity” is transitory. Instead of trying to force a moment in history, maybe he’s staking his reputation on what he sees as destructive to rational society. Maybe we should be supporting and affirming people for who they are and not what they aren’t.

Delusions - whether about gender, status, race, ability, inferiority, superiority, oppression - should not be celebrated. Terrible things happen under ideologies based on delusion. If that’s the parallel one concludes, who wouldn’t do anything in their power to at least discuss it openly.
