What this mentality engages in is an arms race to a user interface that requires no action from the user whatsoever. Thats the ideal end game here right? You make assumptions from mined user data and do everything for them. Idiot users, despite being a majority, should not sleepwalk every company into conducting as much aggressive surveillance and profiling as possible for "ease of use". Or assume that everyone wants to share their information for ease of use.

It’s not that grandiose or malevolent. It’s more like I just want a path to route to in my app on first launch.

Isn’t that what URLs are for?

Universal links on iOS do not work on the very first app launch, which is why developers have to resort to using techniques like copying the link out of the clipboard or associating a link to a user with a fingerprint.

This isn't a problem after the first launch, as the app delegate gets an event to open and route the user from the URL.
