The OP link is a trademark enforcement action for an FSF-owned trademark.

A project cannot enforce FSF-owned trademarks if the FSF "has nothing to do with it."

Okay, I will give you that. GNU Boot is probably part of the GNU Project, given the tone of the GNU Boot maintainer, but GNU Project itself is not part of this drama.
