If you think that, then you have no clue. The Church was phanatical but not dumb on math by any means. How do you think they built their churches? Their naval army? Accounting? Taxes on lesser classes? Heck, just by sailing boats and orienting yourself, you definitively needed trig as a matter of being alive and not get lost/drown in the oceans.
