Re:WTF Ubuntu? on Monday November 02, 2026 @11:53AM (#50339703)
OpenBSD got a recent GeFS (COW FS, but far lighter than BTRFS and not to mention ZFS) update, I wish 8.1 or 8.2 had it stabilized, because the issues with FFSv2 would end in the spot and maybe even steal some server machines to GNU/Linux.

To be honest gopher is so simple that you might even craft it with just an AWK script and no AI at all.
Re:Redox: Ring Buffers Project Summary on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:33PM (#50320916)
More like io_urine, it leaks everywhere and if pisses you off in both ways. Even more by hooking it up against DMABUF. We didn't learn anything from the 90's...
Re:Redox: Ring Buffers Project Summary on Saturday October 31, 2026 @05:39PM (#50320500)
>io_uring is incredibly fast for async I/O but is also a massive security disaster in the Linux kernel

Torvalds bound it up with... DMABUF. Guess what will happen.

On Linux' future memory subsystem imported from a branch, the Asterinas' one in Rust it's miles ahead and far more secure. Like Windows 98 compared to NT.

They can migrate to a non-France server in no time.
Re:French national assembly votes 0.055€/GB internet tax on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:38AM (#50316089)
No, just France.

Get a gopher client and join gopher://hngopher.com (r/o HN over gopher), gopher://magical.fish (huge portal, from a translator from text adventures over gopher, and even current news) and gopher://sdf.org. (blogs).

Gopher://typed-hole.org it's fine too.

Re:Show HN: A working Nintendo in ~1GB of Qwen weights on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:26AM (#50315998)
You can run a subleq interpreter and some eforth image under 10 lines of awk, 13-14 with muxleq.
Re:My favourite PowerMac is a Nintendo Wii on Saturday October 31, 2026 @08:25AM (#50315505)
Nah, the PSP. Being a die hard geek/nerd I played both Slashem at 50MHZ with the CFW, MSX/GB/GBC/NES/SNES/MD/SMS/NeoGeo/Who-knows games under emulators, GBA games (being better on that far better than the GBA itself, savestates and a clear, big screen) and OFC its own PSP (and PSX eboots) games.

And Scummvm, too, to play some gems such as Broken Sword and Lucas Arts adventures.

And I my childhood I loved the Game Boy, but the PSP was almost the GBA I wanted in my early teen years, but enhanced. Oh, and it doubled as a portable media device, so I could watch videos on the go (before smartphones). I ripped up everything from a PC.

Target system 7.5.3, it will run far more stuff.
Re:NetBSD adds a new beginner-friendly text editor called atto on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:52PM (#50298927)
Then use Redox OS, or convince Torvalds to merge Asterinas' memory handling code into Linux.
SMB in the kernel and binding io_uring to DMABUF doesn't look pretty safe either.

Torvalds needs to borrow Rust code from Asterinas (and maybe Redox) ASAP.

Re:NetBSD adds a new beginner-friendly text editor called atto on Thursday October 29, 2026 @04:05PM (#50295009)
jmacs.
Re:NetBSD adds a new beginner-friendly text editor called atto on Thursday October 29, 2026 @04:02PM (#50294956)
Joe editor dates back to 1991 and it came with jpico, jmacs and jstar as pico, emacs and wordstar clones as a hard link.
Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:44AM (#50288931)
There's a FFox plugin to enforce old.reddit.com's old CSS.
Recoll it's far smaller and it runs on a potato. It's a desktop search engine which can parse tons of files. Under GNU/Linux just install all the recommended dependencies for APT/RPM. Or just use Flatpak and to hell with transitive dependencies.
Re:Two high-speed trains collide near Toledo, Spain on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:43AM (#50273410)
I'm from Spain, I know it well. Just check what happened with short-distance trains.
Re:Spain train crash: 'At least 10 dead' in high-speed collision on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:13AM (#50273022)
Also the train network was neglected a lot since the 70s-80s so the car and oil companies could earn huge profits.
Re:Python's experimental JIT to be removed on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:09AM (#50272978)
I've seen worse reimplementations. For what it does it's pretty close.
Re:Two high-speed trains collide near Toledo, Spain on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:08AM (#50272970)
In Spain the train network was neglected so car and oil companies could earn tons of money since the 70's.

But Toledo-Madrid it's a special high speed network with thousands of daily users heading Madrid to work, which is just 1h away from Toledo.

Still, I will always be pro-train because they can mass deliver goods at much higher ratio than by truck.

Re:Python's experimental JIT to be removed on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:21AM (#50259836)
RustPython it's pretty mature.
It's a two-sided personality of the Atlantic Spain. Far more reservated and shy than Andalusians, with a really different mindset. But if you became a friend of some group, you will keep your friends forever.
Re:Python's experimental JIT to be removed on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:24AM (#50258076)
The Rust based Python3 port can keep it and it can still be far more secure than CPython. Not everything it's JIT'ted on RustPython, it's ondemand per function, you have to enable it explicitly.
Re:Nietzschian Debugger on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:20PM (#50251940)
Then just run M-x doctor under Emacs.

Almost "Pharo for Gnome".

Now if someone did for Go what they did for rettui...
Sandbox + more Rust: vulnerabilities axed down.
