So, again (and again): $1 is too much. I'm sure you agree there's at least $1 in abuse. So no, the actual figure doesn't actually matter. I do not trust the justice system on this sort of thing. I'm not deflecting or "moving claims," whatever that means. This is what I said from the start. The number was not actually important. The point, again, was actually the first two words of my original comment:

>> "Police steal"

Civil asset forfeiture is about $68 billion since 2000. How much of that is abuse? Well, fighting a claim costs money, money the police took. So we're left with the word of the people who took it plus the few people who could still afford to fight it, and the former will obviously want you to believe it's all 100% legit.

So we're back at:

>> "Police steal"

And any amount should be a big deal. The people who provide the force of the state's monopoly on violence should not be able to do a single thing wrong without it being investigated and handled fully and immediately. One dollar. One billion dollars. Doesn't matter.

>> "Police steal"

And any amount should be seen as a crisis worth the full and immediate attention of the people they're supposed to serve.

But since you'll ignore all that, here's your damn citation: https://ij.org/report/policing-for-profit-3/

But it doesn't matter. Because, again, any amount of theft by police is a crisis.
