Re:UK: Food inflation rises to 18.2% as it hits highest rate... by Mountain_Skies on Friday March 24, 2023 @02:58PM (#35293856)
The lower classes will never rise up again in any meaningful way. A few token protests here and there that are carefully managed by those in power but never anything that threatens their positions of power. The response to Occupy Wall Street worked better than those in power ever could have imagined and there's no limit on their ability to amp that up even further. It only took a couple of years for those who were in the streets protesting against the banks and Wall Street to line those same streets cheering on those same powerful entities riding on parade floats.

Identity politics have turned out to be the ultimate drug for the masses. There is no defense against it and the working classes will continue to push it further and further to their own detriment and to the glee of the powerful. Doesn't even matter if workers and the rest of the lower classes understand this, they simply cannot stop taking the drug and fighting each other. The tragically comical part of this is that those on the extremes of the political spectrum both think this applies only to the other end.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. We're in this mess because of Thatcher, Reagan and TINA. Almost everyone now believes in capitalism in the same way that medieval peasants believed in the feudal system. That is, while they don't necessarily like it, they see no viable alternative.
