This would be great until someone sends you something "important" via a built-in game or something that Pidgin can't display and then everyone will get confused when you didn't get the memo. I gave up on running a plain text email client years ago and that's supposed to be an open standard.

Gmail has "dynamic content" now, some marketing mails are starting with it.

This dynamic content is normally a part of a multipart MIME message.
Should be opened with an external viewer in case the e-mail client program can not display it inline.
Regarding the MS teams, plain text messaging covers a huge part of use cases, provided the third party client implementation warns the user about limited rendering support, allowing fallback to genuine MS client.
