Even a refreshingly honest article about the real economic motivations for this war seems to ignore that perhaps the US is similarly motivated?

I think decades old NATO being tested for the first time, with the exact reason for it's existence, is a good enough reason.

It is definitely in line with US foreign policy to lessen their dependence on Russia.
