In the US, "spook" can be a derogatory word for black people. It came about in the 1940's and while not extremely common today, this context is familiar enough that I'd second the suggestion to rethink the name/brand.

I think the common usage is government agents, but more generally it's used to refer to things that instill fear or disgust. e.g. ghosts, the feds, and for racists, certain races. I would probably consider a branding update because the historical racial usage is probably enough to dwarf any positive discussion of the platform.

How long should we wait before recycling a term/phrase? There are many words people have never heard today that were common even in the 80s. Which is far more recent than the 40s.
Someone has to be the first to let sleeping dogs lie.
(note, I've _never_ heard spook used for anything other than a spy, and I am old guy)

I have now read all the content on the website, skimmed the various channels on Discord, flipped through all their posts on Instagram, and even watched the various videos on TikTok (including one that was almost promising: an introduction by a founder)... but I don't see how this is "decentralized". Does one self-host it? Is it federated? Are streams registered in a shared DHT (or on some crazy blockchain? ;P) and then the client is open source? Given that "spots are limited" it would seem like it will clearly be "centralized".

You beat me to this comment. That's not even the most dubious thing on this page. No revenue cuts? Make money day one without viewers? I don't understand where the incentives are here.
I suspect there isn't any tech at all yet...just big ideas, and it's just a weather vane for if people are interested in streaming somewhere that isn't Twitch. If they get some emails lined up they can go to VCs to ask for money.

On the front page:
"We're working with the Livepeer protocol. It aims to deliver a live video streaming network protocol that is fully decentralized and highly scalable!"

> The proof is in the data. We've been able to show that our streamers happily continue to stream on our platform and never look back.
But there is no list of streamers, or examples. AFAICT it's just a landing page?
