I did the same, first sentence is pretty much an exact match. I also don't regret it: in my case it was to work on personalized genomic analyses for medicine, far afield from my role in the FAANG, even though the startup ran out of money 6 months later.

Bored is bored, and is a feeling that arises contemplating the finite amount of time one has, whereas money is more open ended, even with a well-intended plan which turns out a setback in the money dimension.
