Carrier-wifi is a way for mobile operators to use local Wi-Fi networks operated by the same mobile operator, if it offers a better connectivity.
As said in the video, there is no need to enter a Wi-Fi password as from the user point of view this is still a mobile phone communication.
I remember there were hot debates at IEEE 802.11 10 years ago because they saw this operator proposal as a way to render traditional Wi-Fi business obsolete.
Shameless plug: I lost interest after retiring and beginning to blog about neurodegenerative diseases at:
This video would be much better if the first minute was a better overview of what carrier-wifi is and what can be achieved by setting it up yourself.
Most of the video is about technical details.
Can you do anything slightly interesting such as creating SIM cards that let a smartphone act like you have your own telephone network capable of voice calls/SMS, but only over wifi?
I'v looked at the github page and still have no idea what this is capable of.
