chrome for some reason bundles a secret anti-virus scanner that does full disk scans at intervals, chewing io and cpu

it can be disabled via a registry key, but still annoying

It's not an anti virus scanner... It never finds any viruses. It certainly roots through all your files though.

it is an anti-virus scanner, just specifically targeted at things that mess with chrome
