GrubHub lost its way in 2014 when it merged with Seamless and IPO'd for 2.7 billion dollars.
That's when it gobbled up all the smaller competitors and started squeezing the restaurants.
Was it the proliferation of middleman companies and operations like Door Dash and Uber Eats? As far as I can tell there has been no value add from them versus the restaurants employing their own delivery people. Just an increased chance in getting food that doesn't deliver well, will be cold on arrival, plus fees for delivering it across the city.
Delivery used to be free and the places that offered it were profitable.
