Funny ... I was born in 1964 (a year after the previous record year) and my first child was born in 1991. I never realized my life could be summed up with a graph ;)

Maybe there was some environmental factor that eliminated the spike in 2020 - more seriously, I'm going to have to talk with my kids about why I don't have grandchildren yet!

If it's "I am curious and I would like to understand what has motivated your life choices not to reproduce" then go for it (heck, please report back!)
But if it is "I'm entitled to you reproducing to give me what I want and why haven't you done it yet?" then please don't. I've seen the latter destroy many millennial child/parent relationships over the past few years. Demanding grandchildren will only destroy your relationship with your children.

I'm not actually going to ask ... it's not that it's a WHOPPR situation (I don't think they'd be offended) but I told my kids starting at age 12-13 that my job is to keep them from making "fatal mistakes", that they'd have to develop adult behaviors if they wanted to be successful as adults, that while there's "an average human", it's not them and that if they had any questions about how to behave in a situation, I'd be happy to talk it through with them.
This worked pretty well and it's been gratifying to see them reason through situations on their own. Most importantly, I love who they've become and that I can finally "be their friend".
