Didn't evervault get started on top of some open source work from a PhD student at Berkeley?

Can't remember what it was called but I think I remember seeing the repo on github

Yes! You might be thinking of node-secureworker[0]. We've been the maintainers for the last couple of years, but haven't been using it in production (concerns around Intel SGX)
