Except that hydrogen production requires energy, so needs either an integrated renewable power source plus water supply or uses grid power.

There's also the impact of that water supply being diverted to hydrogen production, as well as the shipping of hydrogen.

All of that is solvable, but so is battery technology and recycling of the battery ingredients.

and battery charging doesn't require energy?

It's not very complicated to produce hydrogen where it's needed since there is usually both water and energy everywhere
