This is multi-pronged. Chip manufacturing output isn't flexible, and in the last year we've had:

* COVID stay at home * Every kid wants to be a streamer * E-sports becoming a real sport * 2 new console releases * Amazing new CPU's from AMD * Amazing new graphics cards from AMD/Intel. * Another crypto boom/bubble (depending on who you ask)

All these factors have put pressure on chip production.

The difference here is that people are used to not being able to buy chips at costco/wallmart so you might have a chance at selling your stock.
