IE was a dominant browser for many years, because it was widely acknowledged to be the best, by developers and all. Their market share was >95%. After MS "won" the browser wars, they let IE stagnate for years as Firefox continued to implement new features. After >6 years of only critical security updates, the world had moved on.

My personal beef was alpha channel support for PNG.
