Assange doesn't qualify for bail (he is a flight risk/certainty) so he stays in custody until the hearings are done.

Made his bed and now has to lie in it.

Bail? For what? He has not committed any offense for which he should be held in custody under UK law. And the extradition should not have been considered, since the UK official doesn't extradite for charges of political offenses.

He reported the truth. It’s an extraordinary trial this.

It's extradition hearings not a trail. Extraditions are pretty common, the statistics I found seem to indicate roughly 1,000 requests per year with about 50% being successful (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/...)
