Synaesthesia

Makes sense. With battery technology improving and being the cheapest it's ever been, why not? This is probably the direction most countries will go in the future.

Probably a yoga by the sounds of it

You can with Parallels.
Re:I Don't Understand Quantum Physics (2018) on Saturday October 24, 2026 @07:07AM (#50220137)
Yes this is a particular interest of mine, the various interpretations of QM. Most physicists subscribe to the Copenhagen interpretation, but I still find it has philosophical quandaries. He mentioned many-worlds. Bohmian mechanics has been shown to be inadequate.

Blokhinstev's ensemble interpretation, which I like, is unattractive to many.

Re:Ubuntu 26.10 (Stonking Stingray) released on Thursday October 15, 2026 @09:59AM (#50103812)
I still like Ubuntu for a few reasons. The design. Dock on the side. The fact that it's really popular and well supported.

But of course feel free to distro hop yourself.

Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:07PM (#50075090)
How much better can you make a TV? Also the margins are quite thin. Companies like LG and Samsung have pretty much perfected it.
Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:05PM (#50075044)
The Snowden PRISM revelations showed that all the major tech companies work with the US government and its spy agencies. Can't trust anyone.

That would creep me out if it followed me as I walked around the room.

So it's supported now by all the major browsers (Firefox support coming soon) as well as all the major OSes.
Re:The US state replacing power plants with home batteries on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @10:14PM (#49903569)
They're actually cheaper than NMC and are the dominant chemistry.
Re:The US state replacing power plants with home batteries on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @10:13PM (#49903559)
If you're in a power outage with solar and a battery you are so much better off than without that.

I've been running the beta on my machines. Definitely a huge upgrade over Tahoe. Visually and performance-wise.
He also made some music which is very interesting and weird sounding.

Re:ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026 on Sunday September 27, 2026 @12:09PM (#49867975)
You need fossil fuels as feedstock for your chemical industry.

And obviously energy too, until Europe completely electrifies .

So it's quite a big deal when gas goes from being cheap and reliable to expensive and unreliable.

Re:Saving Jet Fuel on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @06:23AM (#49724375)
I don't get why people sometimes talk as if it's just large corporations that contributed to emissions.

It all makes a difference. There's no doubt that individual consumption contributes a lot to global emissions. Like large houses that use a lot of material, cement etc and cost a lot to heat and cool.

And those large corporations exist to serve customers. It's not like we could simply get rid of them.

But we obviously need to also look at the ways that we can work together to save emissions where possible.

Re:Apple A20 Pro Geekbench Result on Friday September 11, 2026 @12:49PM (#49661473)
Not to mention GPU performance, which has also steadily improved.

The A20 Pro has about the same GPU performance as an M1 Pro, according to the Metal GPU benchmark. Very impressive.

Would be great if either party cared about issues which affect ordinary Americans. But they're extraordinarily alienated from the population.
Re:The auto lobby spent millions on media manipulation on Friday September 04, 2026 @06:19PM (#49570899)
It's also part of the US national policy to prefer fossil fuels and oil. The US has become the world's largest petrostate.
Re:The auto lobby spent millions on media manipulation on Friday September 04, 2026 @06:18PM (#49570895)
Advertising is propaganda. And it uses emotions to elicit people to respond in certain ways.

The ad industry likes to say that they're in the business of informing people so they can make better decisions. Whereas they make sure you're uninformed so you can make worse decisions.

Re:GPU World on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @05:23AM (#49519780)
There have been studied and experiments with UBI which contradict what you say.
The processor is great and so is the camera.
The phone I bought from China eats Apple hardware for breakfast. It's got IP69 protection, only 7mm thick, a massive battery that charges incredibly quickly (4800mah). It's basically like an iPhone air but it only cost me about $500 (Motorola X70 Air)

When Apple embraces Silicon Carbide batteries I'm sure they're going to make amazing stuff.

It's not like they haven't impressed on the hardware side. If you look at something like the M4 iPad Pro which was released 2 years ago, there is no competition even close. Nor with their laptops.

Fascism is literally the union of corporations and the state. So why would a CEO stand up against it?

Only the people will stand up against fascism, in a mass movement for freedom and democracy.

It's not about their race. Plenty of Asian people in Silicon Valley. Or even their personal beliefs. It's about the interests of shareholders, which they have to (by law!) satify. That means making profit.

Re:U.S. Sanctions Against the a/I Collective on Saturday August 29, 2026 @11:05AM (#49490514)
Terrorism has to include violence, by my definition at least.

It's in the name. Terrifying people into compliance. Well that isn't the case here.

Re:The Teaser Period: Why the AI Boom Is Hitting a Reset Wall on Thursday August 27, 2026 @12:33PM (#49467495)
IMO there is overinvestment in compute and this will turn out to be a bubble.

But all of the money was anyway just lying around doing nothing. An enormous amount of capital has been building since the 80's thanks to corporate profits. A small sector of the population is so rich they don't know what to do with their capital.

Re:U.S. State Department Pauses Immigrant Visa Applications on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @07:34PM (#49457355)
People think immigrants come to just take. When they can contribute to the economy.
Re:U.S. State Department Pauses Immigrant Visa Applications on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @07:33PM (#49457349)
There's no reason why we should worship borders, or the state.
Xiaomi and other Chinese manufacturers are ahead of Samsung, Apple etc. They have superior cameras, battery technology and the best, latest SOC's.
Re:New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @11:22AM (#49435698)
It's very important. Every time you launch an app or open a file it's critical for performance. Also when memory runs out and the OS swaps to disk it makes a huge difference.
