The thing is, Valve put in the initial investment to support Linux in a big way. Now that things seem more stable, they could pull that support and save money. But how much money would they save? Maintenance of what they have now is far cheaper than the initial investment.

So why not continue support? It’s always, always nice to have an escape hatch you can point to should Microsoft get that look in their eyes again.
