The network in an AWS VPC is insanely fast. It's not a big deal. If they add a new national holiday, now you have to deploy all your services. I guess microservices self perpetuate themselves in that sense

If you're running in a multi-az environment then you're looking at 1-3ms per network request across azs (plus some $ per request).

Yeah we're aware of the cost particularly. We're looking into preferring inter-AZ routing with envoy
