The walk or swim (come on a tiny boat) was an option exercised successfully by milions in the past decade or two, the only problem is that after you get in, you're an illegal alien. You can pretend to be a refugee (also an option sucessfully exercised by many), but it's a gamble and it may not work - however, if they decide you're not a refugee, in most cases they'll just let you roam the Europe freely (they don't deport people back to their home countries for the most part), but you won't be able to get a legal job.
