This is a useful point, as you write, "anticipating that he will be booted from YT in the near future, so he's moving his eggs to other baskets before that happens." The switch looks like a strategic move. I do wonder how long he will stay at DLive. For a short period or more permanently?
The big tech companies all seem to be itching for censorship and deplatforming - due to the personal political inclinations of their senior executives, workforce, and due to increasing pressure from state actors.
Like Sam Harris' jumping ship from Patreon, my guess is PewDiePie is anticipating that he will be booted from YT in the near future, so he's moving his eggs to other baskets before that happens.
