For general file storage spinning disk HDD are still better cost, but there is a decreasing need for general file storage for the average person. For most people one terabyte is more than enough and it may as well be an SSD that is also their boot drive.

Personally I'd love to replace my multiple 2TB drives with 8TB drives if the price comes down a bit.

Games are the only reason most people will need more.

Most new AAA games are approaching 100GB each. And on the extreme end Gears of War 4 for example takes up over 250 GB.

Datacenters as well. Peoples data storage needs have gone up only now we put all the data on someone elses computer.

Me too, but the idea of having so much of my data on a single drive terrifies me. Not sure about you, but I'd probably buy a couple (from different manufacturers or, at least, different batches), just to RAID-1 them.

And automatically ship logs to another set of disks, preferably on a different continent.

I work at a computer resell/repair place and I beleive 9/10 customers would be fine with a 128GB SSD which can be had on amazon for 20$ ! Most people just watch youtube, netflix, some bills, maybe a few documents, etc.
