Re:Amazon ends kindle ebooks "Download and Transfer via USB" on Thursday February 13, 2025 @05:53PM (#43042509)
That and they’d rather the small % of users that use the kindle for piracy keep doing that vs going to another ecosystem
Pictures/Videos?

50gb of data at USB 2 speeds is minimum 14 minutes while usb 3 is 1 min 30.

Real world is probably like double the time for both as usb 2.0 definitely doesn't average 480mbps

Wouldn't it also be real bad news for Zelle? And in theory Venmo/Cashapp/etc
How big of a ship would you need to even hold that tether?

At 4000m under the ocean, you'd need like 10000m of cabling at a minimum I'd assume? And then you'd need the tether + winch to be capable of supporting and lifting the sub at that depth.

I'd be amazed if any country let alone company has that capability outside of maybe the US military.

Re:Audiobooks on Spotify: Here's the full story on Thursday October 27, 2022 @11:08PM (#33367160)
I just checked in the android audible app, I actually now have the ability to buy with dollars via the app itself.

Usually they'd redirect you to audible.com to avoid any google fees but apparently they stopped that?

I do not have the premium audible subscription though, only plus. Maybe that's why?

That's dell basically ripping consumers off.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Celeron-7300-Processor-B...

Is the latest celeron which should be more or less equal to a 6th gen i7 while using a lot less power. They are selling a 3 year old celeron in a 2021/2022 chromebook which is inexcusable.

Acer sells a chromebook with an i5 that's routinely $430 refurbished (yes it's a refurb but it's basically always available) https://acerrecertified.com/chromebooks/?_bc_fsnf=1&Processo...

No.

Viruses mutate over time and they could become more or less deadly over time.

The Spanish Flu mutated into a more deadly virus overtime.

^ not a scientific article, simply to prove how bad the viewpoint of "mutate to be less deadly".

More reasonable article:

This penalty basically starts at 250k in combined income. The median household income is $60,700 as of 2018.
Re:AWS Drives More Than Half of Amazon's Operating Income on Friday February 01, 2019 @05:36PM (#19059450)
For Amazon, the cloud is the little engine that could. Amazon Web Services comprised just 11% of the company's overall sales in 2018, but delivered more operating income than all other business units combined.

I think that's the point the article is trying to make (first sentence of the article)

The X1 carbon is slightly thicker (.03 inches more) than the air but weights .5 pounds less.

It also has 2 full size USB ports + 2 USB C + headphone + a card reader.

The laptop is more expensive than a mac book air but it's more an example that you don't have to sacrifice ports for weight.

Games are the only reason most people will need more.

Most new AAA games are approaching 100GB each. And on the extreme end Gears of War 4 for example takes up over 250 GB.

Short term securities more than likely. Same way paypal/venmo makes money with your balance.
In the US if you have your finances in order there is 0 reason not to use a credit card on everything (where you aren't charged extra to do so) as most credit cards offer a rewards system. For example I have a card that rewards 1.5% back on every purchase and I have it setup to pay in full at the end of every month. Doing this allows me to never pay interest but basically get a 1.5% discount on every purchase.
Or just what Motorola has done with their E series
NYC is basically decriminalized at least from a usage standpoint. Walk through Brooklyn or Manhattan at any hour of the day and you will smell week multiple times on each block.

There are delivery services advertising via craigslist

10mbps (rough guess at the bitrate) would be close to 5GB per hour (once you factor in audio).
