Most working professionals I know are working 9 to 5, not 8 to 4.

This is country dependent. Across the Nordics for example 8 to 4 is very common.

That's only 7 hours. I don't know anyone who only works 9-5. Many either work 8-5 or 9-6.

(Lunches aren't paid, that's a WA State law.)
