I thought it was serotonin. I've never taken opioids but having a serotonin release feels really good.

How did you know that the experience was caused by a serotonin release?

Well, I can't know what it is, but I had ingested a chemical (not an opioid) which supposedly causes serotonin release and my experience matched many other written experiences with said chemical.

There could be several, but the one I know of is MDAI, which is basically like MDMA without the amphetamine ("dopamine-releasing") part.

Note that MDMA releases a lot of dopamine and possibly oxytocin, too. The unique pleasure from the substance isn't solely attributable to the serotonin release.

Other serotonin-affecting substances like LSD also affect dopamine.

True, taking MDMA is literally the best I've ever felt.
