Plenty of people decide against MIT or leave early.

It’s a pretty hostile environment for many people.

I'm not sure I'd call MIT 'hostile.'

I admit I'm heavily biased, but I'd say it is demanding. If universally demanding excellence is 'hostile,' then I guess I can agree with you.
