The short answer - sea water is highly corrosive and rockets are not exactly built water-tight.

It simply being on a barge at sea is still going to subject it to a corrosive environment. Especially if it encounters a lot of wind and waves on the trip back.

Yes, but orders of magnitude less than being submerged for hours/days.
