Work on a private project on the side. Work on your "Facebook", your "Twitter"... i.e. a project that has the potential to make you financially independent one day. And even if it's not that project that does it, all that you learn through it will help you in the next (private side project). And the next.

One of these projects will either hit pay-dirt one day and liberate you to do whatever you want... or these projects will keep hope alive.
