I'm sorry, evacuate? In our moment of triumph?
i think one thing to take from this is that "brains are not much like neural networks beyond some superficial concepts"
chat what is the German word for person who feels guilty for feeling schadenfreude
im sure it is a spectacular word
when people say "there should be no AI taught in schools ever. prompting? what skill is there in talking to a liar bot?" this is where they are dead wrong. Being correctly critical of LLM output is a huge skill and news flash it applies to people and human-written things too.
Exactly my experience. I ended up answering all my own questions on there. The site was useful for looking up weird bash syntax examples and stuff like that, but yeah the vibe sucked, the moderator culture sucked, you can say AI is cold and inhuman but it's there for you , it's not this ridiculous proving ground game you have to play when who really cares, you're just trying to see how to do something.
dont look at soundbites, look at legislation proposed. that's how Senators actually do their work
not at all. wow people need to do some basic research on this. the Republicans are driven by a tiny handful of billionaires and with Musk, trillionaires. Democratic candidates OTOH rely to a vastly larger extent on millions of individual donors sending $100 or less - there are still large donors but their contribution to Democrats is close to an order of magnitude less than what GOP megadonors provide.
Of course, both of these funding models should be banned which would mean dismantling the Citizens United decision spearheaded by the now-known-to-be-fully-corrupt Roberts court, which might require a constitutional amendment.
> both cool with selling our data.
I guess you can pretend Liz Warren, Ron Wyden, Patty Murray, dozens of house reps and thousands of Democratic legisltators in statehouses and towns around the country don't exist and just vote for the "party that lowered my taxes" again , right?
I keep pushing the big "make it illegal to sell US citizens' data and arrest anyone who breaks that law" button on my wall here but nothing happens

Have....they seen Arcane ?
have two queues. one is the normal one with the AI review and all that, the other is for AI-abstainers, where:
> I rather wait a year before my package makes it through NEW (yes, that happened)
than have my strong opposition to LLMs be ignored and all my uploads being
automatically screened without my consent.
so those entries go in the "abstain-from-LLM-queue", where there is no guarantee of timeliness at all, and human volunteers can process that queue manually as they are available
tldr just tag the entries as "OK for LLM" or not. it's just like organic and non-organic produce, it can be done.

great. let's pop this bubble so everyone panicking can leave us devs alone with our tools. GLM 5.3 is good enough if anthropic and openai go under (which they wont).

are you serious? they're going to replace humans in charge of nuclear silos with large language models who can directly launch without human interaction? That would be the scenario. If your scenario is "ChatGPT told Trump to launch the missles", AI didn't do that; Trump did.
i saw those dollar signs and @ symbols in 2003 and ran screaming, myself (coming from perl, seeking to...get away from it)
this announcement is not regarding a large language model
Is it me or do most of these "I'm quitting programming" posts seem to be coming from the Ruby community?
i see this phrase thrown about a lot but have not seen any "here is how humanity is killed off" scenarios described, not even bad ones much less plausible ones. As long as we dont have a hankering for paperclips that is
So if the movie can be "spoiled" it's at least....entertaining? I'm not sure to think if people are just leaving disturbed and mildly traumatized or what
not really. a declining population is an aging population. think nurses, home healthcare assistants, food service, housing, a million other services that seniors use lots of (like all of us) but they're in the distinct situation of not actually being able to contribute to any of those services. Look at Japan for this scenario playing out right now (and why they are having to add exceptions to their normally extremely strict worker immigration rules).
the js/yaml version would require a license key that connects to a business arrangement between the website and the owner of the crawler. the plain HTML version would adversarially block them (or even identify them, where they could be sued...once we have legal precedents for this stuff).
it looks like this is solving itself in the usual and productive way:
> Instead of trying to fight Amazon, the company has partnered with retailers like Walmart, Gap, Sephora, Best Buy, and others, allowing Muse to shop on their sites. At the same time, Shopify has also opened its network of storefronts to AI agents.
they're making deals with the sites so that the agents can work, the sites get compensated. I hope for this "AI can do what it wants if it pays" model to expand further. Cloudflare told us months ago we'd have an option to get paid by AI crawlers. I signed up to join but of course as a nobody I never got a reply.
terrence tao didn't even write this post and the conclusion it has is thus:
> Universities, professional societies, funding agencies, and scientific foundations should coordinate the development and governance of competitive LLMs. Scientists will need access to frontier capabilities, transparency about their operation and use of research data, strong confidentiality protections, and the ability to test and reproduce research claims independently.
> The massive computing resources, specialized personnel, data infrastructure, and ongoing investments needed to support this kind of initiative are not within the reach of a single institution, and a huge leadership effort will be necessary to conjure the combination of independent model development, guaranteed access to commercial systems, public computing infrastructure, and open research resources that could do the job.
the post is calling for....an enormous investment in LLM infrastructure.
there are also declining birthrates globally. People are living longer and fewer young people are being born to be able to replace them as well as to do all the work in supporting such a population. Which means jobs like janitorial and food service are going to become much more in demand anyway.
