47/50 for the grand prize is definitely a hard challenge. The best team in Progress Prize 1 only scored 29/50.

Re:Issues with upstream DNS provider on Tuesday August 23, 2022 @07:55PM (#32573229)
Looks like Heroku uses NS1 as the upstream DNS provider. you can find the information like this

  dig NS @1.1.1.1 test.herokuapp.com -> fail

  dig @1.1.1.1 test.herokuapp.com -> fail

  dig NS @dns1.p03.nsone.net test.herokuapp.com -> works

  dig @dns1.p03.nsone.net test.herokuapp.com -> works

So my conclusion is that NS1 is having issue responding DNS queries from other DNS servers. Interestingly, there is no public information on heroku being dependent on NS1 or any current outages from NS1 status page.

Cloudflare Is Down

cloudflare.com returning 500 1.1.1.1 DNS not respondingdiscord, downdetector and many other sites are down as well

I think the biggest difference is webhosting provider can't scale your php resource up and down infinitely in real time. Your software is not exposed to the server but constrained by it. The idea of serverless is that your service is automatically distributed and not constrained by the capability of some web server.
I agree the kubernetes part in the article is an overkill, but the serverless movement is here to stay. I used to be a serverless skeptic like you. However, after playing around with "serverless"[1] and AWS CDK[2], I truly believe serverless architecture is not only possible but preferred in many real use cases.

For example, API powered by traditional web cserver + database can be replaced with lambda/function + dynamo/s3/firestore. Cron jobs can be replaced by cloud scheduler + lambda/fargate/cloud run. As a serverless user, you really don't interact with "servers", but instead a highly-available and scalable managed task execution environment.

The only downside is each layer of compute abstraction comes at the cost of spending more and more money.

Re:Amazon Quits China Market on Monday April 22, 2019 @11:23AM (#19719580)
Having lived in both China and US/Canada, I would say jd and taobao is far ahead of American Amazon. Some key differentiators include delivery speed, UI/UX, product offerings and the ability to chat with merchants instantly.
Re:Why I’m Remaking OpenAI Universe on Monday June 26, 2017 @02:34PM (#14639129)
I am also working on related project. Flash and HTML5 games in chrome are great but they are very far away from the initially promised full blown GTA5, Starcraft and other complex envs. I am in process of remaking the Universe framework for host machine, since running those computation intensive games at reasonable frame is nearly impossible inside docker or virtual machines.
Re:How to Start Learning Deep Learning on Monday June 27, 2016 @02:31PM (#11988320)
I just finished the course last week. I really liked Andrew's teaching style and enjoyed it very much. The work load is light compare to on campus courses at my school. I strongly recommend anyone interested in ML/AI to take the course.
