Show HN: JustOpenFile – Preview files locally in the browser without uploading

https://justopenfile.com/en

Hi HN,I built JustOpenFile, a browser-based file viewer that processes files locally without uploading them to a server. It supports PDF, DOCX, Excel, CSV, JSON, Markdown, EPUB, ZIP, SQLite, images, audio, video, fonts, and 3D formats such as STL, GLB, and OBJ. ZIP archives can also preview supported files inside them. The project was motivated by a simple problem: opening an...

Re:Stop Using Ollama on Thursday April 16, 2026 @03:48AM (#47789947)
The name "llama.cpp" doesn't seem very friendly anymore nowadays... Back then, "llama" probably referred to those models from Facebook, and now those Llama series models clearly can't represent the strongest open-source models anymore...

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll work on adding filter options and toning down the ads.
You're absolutely right about the AI-generated look. I'm not a UI designer, so I relied too heavily on AI for the frontend. I should probably study designs from other websites and create something more custom instead. Thanks for the feedback!
I think popularity to some extent represents what people are paying attention to and the technologies that are gaining traction. While it shouldn't be the only factor in evaluating software quality, it can serve as a valuable indicator of community interest and emerging trends in the tech landscape.
You're right, I should filter out old/archived/deprecated repositories to keep the list active.

Show HN: Newcomer Ranking – Alternative to GitHub Trending for New Repos

https://git-stars.org/ranking/newcomers

I've been working on git-stars.org and created a "Newcomer Ranking" that I think does a better job of discovering new popular projects than GitHub Trending. While GitHub Trending often shows the same established repositories cycling through, my Newcomer Ranking specifically focuses on repositories that are both new AND gaining significant traction recently.

Thank you for your suggestions. Currently, I'm mainly focused on financial market information, especially in the United States.
I think the biggest difference from Google News Alert is real-time delivery. Google News Alert obviously only sends emails once a day, while I can notify you the moment the news is captured.
These messages are mainly 7*24 financial news updates, captured in real-time. They might enable quick reactions after receiving information in financial markets.
Thanks for your attention. I quickly launched this website, so many details aren't well-developed yet. I'd like to know if it has potential for growth.
Thank you for your attention. This is my MVP product, which is still being refined. I launched it quickly.

Hey HN! I built this after watching too many friends struggle with the "should I tell them?" dilemma.

The concept is simple: you enter your name, get an anonymous link to send to your crush. They see a message saying someone likes them and need to guess who. If they guess your name correctly, you both get notified of the match. If they guess wrong, they never know it was you.

Tech stack: Flask + SQLite, with Google OAuth for notifications. The tricky part was designing the UX to feel safe and non-creepy while maintaining complete anonymity until there's mutual interest.

Some interesting challenges I solved: - Preventing spam/abuse while keeping it anonymous - Designing the guess mechanism to avoid awkwardness - Making sure failed guesses truly stay private

It's completely free and I'm not collecting any personal data beyond what's needed for the matching. Would love feedback from the community on the concept and execution!
