I heard turnips used to be all the rage.

Can I get off this train, please?

Re:Pentagon Formally Labels Anthropic Supply-Chain Risk on Thursday March 05, 2026 @04:38PM (#47267667)
From what I understand it cannot be used to perform work on contracts where the DoW is on the other side. [1]

In practice I would suspect companies with such contracts would play it safe by outright banning the use of Anthtropic products, even if they could technically be used for work on contracts with other parties.

The internet is getting less interesting by the day.
Re:Vercel down in Dubai, EU affected also on Monday March 02, 2026 @02:39PM (#47223024)
Wasn't the internet kinda designed around the idea that it should remain operational during war?

> But I hope we can agree that you can't spec out something you have no clue how to build

Eh, of course you can. You can specify anything as long as you know what you want it to do. This is like systems engineering 101 and people do it successfully all the time.

War will be a comparatively honest use of this technology compared to how the likes of Google will monetize it going forward.
Re:US orders diplomats to fight data sovereignty initiatives on Wednesday February 25, 2026 @04:35PM (#47158224)
Which is perfectly fine (albeit perhaps stupid, I agree) for private enterprise. It's the public ones that need to shift first and foremost.
Re:Ladybird Browser adopts Rust on Monday February 23, 2026 @12:05PM (#47125122)
Cool project, but I'm a bit curious hearing how the rest of the project feels about this?

I'm not sure how I'd feel if I woke up and found a system I worked on had been translated into an another language I'm not neccessarily familiar with. And I'm not sure I'd want to fix an non-idiomatic "mess" just because it's been translated into a language I'm familiar with either (although I suspect they'll have no problem attracting rust developers).

Re:Spain has blocked access to freedom.gov on Sunday February 22, 2026 @08:49PM (#47117058)
I'd rather have the US government allowing me to access X and 4chan than have the likes of you blocking me from doing so.
Re: on Tuesday February 17, 2026 @08:07AM (#47047107)
No you didn't, you generated 3 minutes of slop out of which I bothered to watch 2 minutes. If you charged for it I'd want my money back.

Are they though? I don't know what I expected, but to me they looked like nothing. Maybe they'd be more impressive if I'd read the transcripts but whatever.

Re:4chan for Clankers on Saturday February 14, 2026 @07:05AM (#47013907)
LinkedIn posts already read like they were written by bots so I'm not sure that would be necessary...
Re:Systems Thinking on Friday February 06, 2026 @03:01AM (#46910264)
This isn't my experience. Requirements tend to settle over time (unless they're stupidly written). Users tend to like things to stay the same, with perhaps some improvement to performance here and there.

But if anything, all development is the search for the search for the requirements. Some just value writing them down.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for France to fork US software from 20 years ago, because shit sure hasn't improved much since then.
Early Facebook was inferior to local social networks in many ways. The real killer feature was convincing people to de-anonymize themselves on the internet.
Re:Euro firms must ditch Uncle Sam's clouds and go EU-native on Saturday January 31, 2026 @06:51AM (#46835776)
What is the cost of storing data in Europe today?

What are some realistic alternatives to US markets here? Selling is one thing, the question is what to buy instead? I mean, everyone starting to buy european instead would be great for stock prices, but it wouldn't make the underlying assets more valuable, right?
Wasn't there some kind of military exercise around Greenland the other day? I assume these are the countries that participated?
Also consider the tools and materials available today. I don't know much about Michelangelo, but I imagine people's opportunity for sheer iteration (due to availability of qualitys pens, pappers, ink etc) is magnitudes higher (and cheaper) today.
Re:25 Years of Wikipedia on Friday January 16, 2026 @03:58AM (#46644497)
Fully agreed. The Talk pages are a very interesting read these days. I things continue down this path I think Wikipedia will be a lot less relevant in the coming years, at least for current events and things related to the on-going culture war.
Re:Gentoo Linux 2025 Review on Sunday January 11, 2026 @11:01AM (#46576850)
I've been on Gentoo for my gaming desktop for like 2-3 years now and I don't think I've ever had an update break anything.

I will say though that my valgrind is broken due to march native. :)

If I where the officer in front of a reving car my instinct would be to move out of the way, not pull my gun and fire at the driver.
