Re:Ask HN: Getting depressed day by day, how to cope? on Friday April 17, 2026 @09:47AM (#47805919)
Try to become an SME on the business side in addition to technical abilities.

For example understanding how financial instruments work and how to model them onto systems is a valuable skills and cannot be fully trusted (yet) in the hands of AI as mistakes can be really really costly.

Yoghurt + Kefir + Kumis.

Golden Horde conquered the known world fueled by milk byproducts.

I can't believe I'm typing this but actually trying to sneak into US via southern border looks quite promising at the moment.

It should cost you around $20K - $25K, paying for the smugglers and such.

Lots of white collar people from my middle-eastern country has chosen this route for the last 2 years, instead of waiting for the official visa channels.

Quite surprised no one mentioned this:

Take care of the mom. Make sure she is rested, comfortable.

She is the primary caretaker, she is the baby's whole world.

Happy mom - happy baby.

Same here, Google's "How to" search share will be eaten by ChatGPT and similar products in about 5 years maybe.
Re:Ask HN: Why Did Python Win? on Tuesday August 29, 2023 @12:05PM (#37309922)
I think it just survived naturally, filling in the cracks left by Java / C++.

And now the era of Textual (https://textual.textualize.io/) is here, python may get the spotlight even more.

If databases are in play, instead of trying to understand the business logic, have a go at understanding the database structure first.

What are your tables, how they are related etc.

Then look at the modules that interact with the data layer directly and move up.

This is a language agnostic approach though, but it has worked out well for me.

What I'd suggest (having quite a bit of history with UK recruiters):

For each section in your work history, create a subtitle and just list the technologies used.

Eg:

2020 - 2021 Company A

Technologies used: Python, Django, MySQL

2021 - 2022 Company B

Technologies used: Kubernetes, MongoDB, C++, pandas

This will just help recruiters who'll be skimming through your CV to put you in the right category.

Totally agree.

If you use django you get the following out of the box:

* Database management (migrations / schemas) * CRUD UI -> Django admin * Plug'n play API -> Django rest framework

If your DB schema is not super complicated (think views etc) and you are not relying on DB procedures, then such framework would save you so much time.

Heavy use of C++ and FPGAs really.

I know of one exchange that had a generic matching engine that used C++ meta programming to suit different markets.

DB-wise, postrges and Oracle and KDB.

UI-wise React is pretty much the standard.

Setting up a Github profile with sample code would be good start.

If he can provide videos / screenshots of his work it would be even more impressive.

How do we handle interdependent validation between different fields?

Let's say I got begin date and end date, and I'd like to ensure end date always comes after begin date.

Well that sounds kind of impractical.

Re:U.S. Fed accepts $756B in daily reverse repo operation on Thursday June 17, 2021 @03:17PM (#27543401)
It is fake.

The thing is is your average American would never even consider the ultimate possibility of a foundational collapse of their economy and currency.

And it's not just the average American. Nearly all hedge funds etc have USD as their basis.

Bitcoin, Gold, Stocks, real estate etc has a value tag that's denominated in Dollars.

You open up your portfolio and be happy when the USD value goes up in a nice green color.

But what happens when USD gets diluted and debased so much that it's not possible to stop anymore. Are we not past point of no return already?

Debasement of currency marked the end of the Roman empire, why would American empire be any different?

Because US has nukes?

Because they can force the rest of the world to keep using USD at gunpoint?

For how long?

Python & Java and .Net has quite a bit of traction in Turkish software industry. I believe Delphi is mainly used in healthcare but has been losing market share for years.

I think this is just another money embezzlement scheme by Turkish official, which shouldn't be that surprising unfortunately.
