Ask HN: What are some good open sourced mobile back ends
Hey all, exploring the mobile world here. I've been through the udemy ios complete course and found Baas such as parse as really convenient. The only caveat is cost. Are there any open source backend solutions that you guys can suggest? I'm most familiar with python, but couldn't find any pre-existing solutions. Let me know!(NOTE: I'm currently trying out datakit/parsekit, seems promising, but...
Ask HN: Serving rendered html and static content vs. building APIs
Just a quick newbie question. When I was learning flask/django I was taught to use certain python packages to render the html first on the server and then serve it. As I learned more and more technologies on the front end, I realized that letting frameworks render and serve web pages is kind of inefficient (that's why we have nginx and apache, right?) So is it wiser to just build APIs on the...
Ask HN: What should I learn to make my full stack deployment easier?
I consider myself to be a novice full-stacker, with a preference for python. However, there's a lot of tools out there for many different purposes. I just wanted recommendation on what to learn/use to make my life easier. So... What is it that you guys use that can make my life a little easier? Don't be afraid to get specific (ex. docker, ansible.. etc)
Also to the list you might add: p2p live tv (cable tv replacement) - tv networks generate revenue based on ads (subscription fees) p2p goes to solve a lot problems. Comcast is screwing the whole foodchain - now is the time to act.
Know your basics (syntax/MVC/OOP..etc) Once you're done with the cookie cutter stuff, hack hack hack. This includes the learning, Coursera, Udacity, and Codeacademy all provide some top level content - you don't have to finish it. Just learn the necessary concepts and run with it.
In my opinion, it is better and easier to learn programming by building something you're passionate about, rather than something that someone else is passionate about.
