Re:Faster-than-light neutrinos face time trial on Thursday October 06, 2011 @03:19PM (#3081246)
So if it's the gravitational pull that makes the clocks different, it seems obvious that doing the experiment in the other direction is the next step. Measure the time in both directions to average out this effect.
Is there a way to add or contribute music to the current music list? I like this site, but if I'm going to be a VJ then I want to be able to upload some of my own beats/songs to mix in the room.
Re:Use Jonathan's card to buy yourself an iPad on Friday August 12, 2011 @12:38PM (#2877978)
This is clearly theft. What he used the money for is not relevant. The card was put out for a specific use, and this use case was not the intended one. Had he actually bought an iPad, everyone would agree that it's theft. Transferring money between someones else's card and your own with out permission is theft.
Re:The MIT Mood Meter on Wednesday April 13, 2011 @12:09PM (#2442894)
Seems like there is a missing component: Frowning. When the lowest mood available is "calm," it feel like it's missing half the picture...

"If the NFL wins, the market goes up, otherwise, it takes a dive. What’s happened over the last thirty years? Well, most of the time, the NFL wins the Superbowl"

Standards of editing have really gone down over the years. The "NFL" always wins the Superbowl...

Make the results clickable when they include a website. i searched for ncaa results and got:

ncaa.cοm, yοu can fοllοw all ncaa spοrts οn it.

but it's not clickable.

Re:Groupon could IPO for as much as $25 Billion on Thursday March 17, 2011 @12:58PM (#2336887)
I can definitively state that that Groupon could IPO for as much as $150 Trillion.
Yep, 404.
I wish this investment had come from an American source. The large returns generated by start-ups are one of the ways the US economy can get back on it's feet. Siphoning this value creation off to other countries is not the way to get back to the top.
Re:Pi calculated to 5 trillion digits: new world record on Wednesday January 26, 2011 @03:57PM (#2145103)
Why would you do this?
I think a two (or more) semester course where you write some libraries/functionality during the first semester from a blank page, and then use/refactor/enhance that code in the second semester would be very valuable. "Eat your own dog food" is something everyone should learn in school. Perhaps the third semester could be based on getting some other students code to enhance as well as being a resource for someone using your code from the previous classes.

what does the big download arrow actually download?
Re:Ask HN: Anyone else doing a non-software startup? on Friday October 15, 2010 @03:53PM (#1795993)

Re:VoltDB is out, benchmarks against Cassandra on Wednesday May 26, 2010 @03:57PM (#1381456)
I wonder if this DB will be available from any clouds?
Re:Poll: Hackers, do you play any musical instruments? on Monday January 11, 2010 @04:02PM (#1045990)

Re:Non-web startups, anyone is doing these? on Friday October 09, 2009 @04:11PM (#872343)
the biggest problem I have is very similar to a technology problem. The engineers love to do design and vetting (ie/ riding the prototype parts) but are not keen on the follow through aspect of finalizing design and going to production to enable sales. Much the same as a technologist who loves to tinker and refactor, but isn't interested in shipping product or doing support.
Re:Non-web startups, anyone is doing these? on Friday October 09, 2009 @02:56PM (#872192)
I have a non web start up www.wickwerks.com

bicycle parts manufacturing. Manufacturing has quite a different set of headaches.

Re:Visual Map of Your Name's Online Presence on Wednesday August 19, 2009 @11:31AM (#772890)
completely wrong in my case.
I prefer equal splits whenever possible. This allows discussions to be meritocratic and not power based.
Re:Ask HN: Where do you live? on Monday August 10, 2009 @09:14AM (#752778)
Chicago, and I'm awake now at least :-)
This is it for me. Music production, song writing, and live performances.

Also trying to save the world for my kids, but that might end up being a virtual effort so I'm not sure I can list it.
