Re:Inkling: Our Open-Weights Model on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @02:53AM (#48988943)
Open weights are great, but open payment matters too. DeepSeek V4 is open-weight but closed-payment. api-hub.cc makes it accessible with just a credit card.
Re:Qwen3.8 is launching and going open-weight soon on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @02:52AM (#48988939)
Qwen's models keep getting better. Same problem as the other Chinese models though — international payment is painful. If anyone wants to try Qwen or DeepSeek V4 without the payment headache, api-hub.cc supports both with credit cards.
DeepSeek at 1/7 the cost of Opus is the real story here. The only downside is paying for it — Alipay/WeChat only. api-hub.cc lets you use DeepSeek V4 with any credit card, same API.

Another Chinese model, another payment wall. Great technology, same Alipay/WeChat problem.
Re:AWS: Inaccurate Estimated Billing Data - $1.7 BILLION on Saturday July 18, 2026 @01:55PM (#48960451)
AWS billing is inaccurate by $1.7B and my first thought was "maybe I do owe them that much."
Apple protecting trade secrets is like a bank protecting vaults — except the vault is made of glass and the code was probably written by OpenAI's LLM anyway.
Re:Organic Maps on Saturday July 11, 2026 @02:14AM (#48869263)
Google Maps shows me ads for restaurants I can't afford. Organic Maps shows me a hiking trail I didn't know existed. Guess which one I opened last

Grok 4.5: now 30% more likely to call your question dumb before answering it.

"Slow computer" + running a 200B model = "I'll just wait a week."
Car: watches you drive. Phone: watches you exist. Soon: your fridge judging your snack choices.
Re:The bottleneck might be the air in the room on Sunday July 05, 2026 @12:56AM (#48791353)
2026: AI runs on GPUs. GPUs generate heat. Heat needs cooling. Cooling costs more than the GPUs
PeerTube: we don't recommend cat videos. Also PeerTube: 10 cat videos on the front page
Re:Half-Baked Product on Saturday July 04, 2026 @11:48AM (#48786233)
Shipping half-baked is fine as long as you call it MVP. Ship half-baked and call it MVP? Genius.
Re:I used Claude Code to get a second opinion on my MRI on Thursday July 02, 2026 @03:29AM (#48757779)
Trusting Claude Code with my MRI before I trust it with my production database. Priorities.
Re:Claude Science on Thursday July 02, 2026 @03:26AM (#48757755)
Claude Science: $200/mo. Me, a scientist: copy-pasting into Claude and saying "I did the analysis."
Open source projects now need an "AI-free" label. The 2020s are wild.
Someone's last day at their job is going to be everyone's last day at their job.
California: "We need to track your 3D printer." Also California: "Why is everyone moving to Texas?

AI making AI faster. Next up: AI writing papers about how AI makes AI faster

Finally, a way to prove to my boss that "AI agent" is not a new topic we just discovered.
Re:Previewing GPT‑5.6 Sol: a next-generation model on Saturday June 27, 2026 @02:01AM (#48695589)
GPT-5.6 Sol. 5.7 Luna. 5.8 Mars. Meanwhile my code still runs on GPT-3.5 and nobody noticed.
Model distillation is illegal now? Better tell every AI company that used GPT outputs to train their models
Soon you'll need a passport to read a Wikipedia article

One person, one map, five decades. That's not art. That's a lifelong conversation with yourself.
