News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I mean, they need to give an intuition of the magnitude. Tell me, what do you think when I say “a GPU consumes 1 kW of power”? What does that even mean to the regular Joe?

It is pretty easy to compare against homes because they consume on average 1 kWh of electricity (in the U.S.). It could be something else, but 99% of people have homes they live in, so this is something directly linked to their experiences. So it is not meaningless at all.

They probably meant that AI = fossil fuels, because gas is the energy source from where majority of electricity for AI datacenters will (proportionally) come from.

This isn’t a law.

The person simplified the paper with such a misunderstanding that I thought 10x before rebutting. They clearly didn’t read anything of the paper. Thanks for the clarification.

Some people don’t want to recognize the important work that went into this.

You paper "A catalog of stream processing optimizations" is great! It seems like a classic in stream processing for me :)

Generally I agree with this comment. Very few niche applications require stream processing and all struggle that had been into research to enable some of the ACID properties for stream processing.

While at it, would you know how kdb+ (mostly used in finance) work? It -- together with q -- seems to achieve very low latency for real time systems.

That, and even better when coupled with good public transportation.

They also run Chinese models for their china-based iPhones. So they would benefit from models being open.

And what would you say, Sherlock?

But what does that mean for the US competitive leap in AI when compared to China? Is it an admission by these companies that AI models are here to stay and the US will not “win” by being the only country with the best of models? Genuinely asking, not sure about the answer.
They usually care about industry that can bring local jobs with it, which explains why some of them support coal power plants.
Stupidest comment ever.
I like the process tree view, but it stops the dynamic updates and reordering of process list.
It is so sweet that you believe in all these.

"LXC" for macOS?
It seems some AI propaganda has already worked on you.
No, but you can run your own models and check it for yourself.
Re:Was my $48K GPU server worth it? on Friday May 22, 2026 @02:56AM (#48232853)
Can anyone recommend what types of server would it be required to run a RTX 6000 Pro?
