Surprised this isn't getting more upvote love. I liked the collection of resources and have bookmarked it for later!
This is a great idea! I haven't seen anything like it and also I think you kill of the forum to discuss photos and just attach comments to photos directly (sort of like instagram). Wonder if there is anything legally against chipping in like this?
I like this idea. Now do you propose that a municipality create a startup accelerator with the requirement for funding being that you are willing to relocate?

Would be pretty amazing if they through in office space / housing for the first few years. One would have to believe it would pay off quickly.

Yeah, taken the train through baltimore multiple times. Always been told that it's not really safe anymore.

You learn something new every day. I didn't even know there was a downvote threshold!
Also relevant, check out the decline in Detroit at present:

Watched this weekend and it is available for streaming. Pretty scary to think this sort of decline could hit any major city.

Why has this been downvoted?

Thanks for the comment! I don't want us to ignore the situation but it seems like the laser focus we are currently putting on the subject could be a bad thing for women in general.
I love how this shallow and superficial article has been on the front page all day. I struck a chord and obviously people saw something in it. Leave it at that and stop being so negative.

I would hope that cultures aren't the norm and instead the exception. Unfortunately I am probably mistaken.
Re: on Saturday April 13, 2013 @09:14PM (#5545414)
Would be very interesting to see if someone could dig up this data.
Re: on Saturday April 13, 2013 @08:45PM (#5545341)
So is the imbalance addressed by showing more women that STEM is a valid choice from an early age or is it that we start at the firms and try to work your way backwards? At a certain point is it a systemic failure?

I am never surprised when this article reoccurs on HN. Don't try to rush it and continue to put in your time, that is the only way to get better at the craft.
Re:Frighteningly Ambitious Startup Ideas - The Redux on Sunday March 31, 2013 @04:19PM (#5470051)
The problem I have with mailbox is I feel that I don't get enough email in my gmail account to warrant even considering it.

Most people use exchange for email, I would love to see this support it.

Re:Frighteningly Ambitious Startup Ideas - The Redux on Sunday March 31, 2013 @04:11PM (#5470020)
You could look to replace either it's all about what you see as the problem. Does your spouse email you your shopping list? Do you email yourself a to do list or do you write it down in something like Remember The Milk?
So, you guys have plans to upgrade when 1.8.7 is deprecated?
Re:Frighteningly Ambitious Startup Ideas - The Redux on Sunday March 31, 2013 @03:29PM (#5469875)
Yes, I believe that you could but founders are still going to try for both.
Find myself using it for Ruby sometimes but really wish it wasn't v1.8.7. Wonder what the reasoning behind that was.
Re:Frighteningly Ambitious Startup Ideas - The Redux on Sunday March 31, 2013 @03:09PM (#5469778)
Good question, would seem there are enough to warrant the creation of quite a few email products that are supposed to help you get to this "zen" like state.

One of Mailbox App's pitch points is even along these lines: "Inbox zero. Daily.".

Quoted directly from PGs article :) You should fire that over to him. Before you deleted the comment.

I am impressed that is actually on the front page. I wish I had written the post a bit better but I have been away from writing for a long while.
Re:The same app 4 times: PHP vs Python vs Ruby vs Clojure on Monday March 25, 2013 @07:46PM (#5440450)
What would be interesting is if the project would have randomly picked one of the codebases to load so you could end up taking a spin on each.
Re:HipChat is now free for teams of 5 users or fewer on Thursday March 21, 2013 @05:18PM (#5419098)
We pay for Atlassian products at my company as well. I just call their business model the "trojan horse". I personally don't prefer their products but that is not to say they are bad.
Re:HipChat is now free for teams of 5 users or fewer on Thursday March 21, 2013 @12:39PM (#5416475)
Standard Atlassian MO for all of their products. They get you by having what would be a fairly small team in your company (usually 5 people) using their product and they are the trojan horse that then makes you end up purchasing a license.
Re:Google I/O 2013 Registration Sells Out In 49 Minutes on Wednesday March 13, 2013 @12:35PM (#5369477)
With the way the checkout system worked wouldn't it have been better to just have developers note their intention to attend beforehand and then on sales day just hold a raffle (in batches)? Everyone gets an email when they are able to purchase a ticket (selected at random, hence the raffle) and you only send out emails as long as you have tickets available for purchase.

This type of process would control the flow of participants and keep the experience optimal for those going through checkout. I wonder if they are going to release any numbers for how many people were trying to hit the servers all at once.

This is the start of building technology that should hopefully satisfy South Korea's need for more vespene gas.
Re:Heroku Class Action on Friday March 08, 2013 @06:46PM (#5346520)
Can we please get this site hosted on Heroku for the irony?
I don't actually think this is a danger of always on DRM more growing pains from an industry (gaming) that is learning how to build infrastructure that can scale to the size of their audience. Games are going to move toward becoming services just like any popular web app you use in your day to day life and I am not mad about that. I don't ever give a second though to whether Pivotal Tracker, Evernote or Flickr will be around in a few years, I accept the thought that may not be and use the tools because I enjoy them.

Gaming as a medium is trying to evolve and find a business model that can allow them to scale games to audiences that are bigger and trying to make them more complex without having to tap into all the power your computer / console may have. I have worked in the game industry and while I can support people being upset and I am more interested in how this impacts the type of gameplay experiences we have in the future.

I would be interested in seeing startups spring up around supporting cloud infrastructure and analytics for game companies. Sort of like an amazon for Game Devs
