Ask HN: Visiting San Franscisco

Hi everyone!I'm going to be in the bay area approximately January 3rd to January 12th. I'm currently a grad student at CMU, and I'd love to meet up with some people and grab some coffee or something. Also - any recommendations on where to stay? I've heard some pretty awesome things about the co-ops that have been forming, but I have no idea who to talk to about visiting.

Ask HN: Best resources to understand AI

I'm looking to immerse myself in the theory to build up a stronger foundation. I already have Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach (2nd ed) by Norvig and Russell. Beyond theory, I would also like to learn more about things like hadoop/kafka/storm/etc.I know this is rather broad, so let me know if there's a better way for me to clarify what I'm looking for. What methods have you used to...

I'm commuting 2+ hours twice a week for school, and I don't have time to actually eat (real) food in between work and school. Having a decent meal replacement for that is helpful, so that I don't end up eating garbage.

Where did you look for consulting? Just anywhere and everywhere that seemed relevant? We're just joining the accelerator now, so we aren't going to have much to pay out for living expenses for the team. Up front, it's probably going to be funded with my (minor) savings, and student loans if I can't get freelance work.

Just because it's what I want to do, doesn't mean it's smart. :) Thanks for the support. I'm just nervous about making the jump I suppose.

Beyond the initial amount given by the accelerator? My other concern is time, since I'd be working almost two full time jobs + school. I feel that you're probably right though. It's just a big jump.

Ask HN: Advice on leaving corp for startup

I'm sure you've seen this time and time again, but I need some advice. I'm currently a part-time MBA student at a prestigious university, and working a comfy corporate job. Our team won a local startup weekend, and we're applying to accelerators. Assuming we get in, I'm faced with the decision of quitting my job to pursue the startup full-time. Basically, taking a paycut of somewhere in the...

There is a quick link for where we're at now. We are TailoredFit Co, a group of young entrepreneurs participating in Startup Weekend Pittsburgh. We’d love to hear any and all of your thoughts on our concept of a web platform that shops for you by learning your preferences over time, showing you clothing you’ll like from brands you are familiar with and finding new recommendations you wouldn’t...

Re:Ember.js 1.0 Released on Sunday September 01, 2013 @10:40AM (#6310535)
Congratulations! I remember looking at Ember way back and bring really unsure since it was all over the place. You all have done incredible work; I'm looking forward to building with it!

Regarding hosting an Ember app, can you use something like s3 with cloudfront or will it not refresh fast enough to be usable?

Sorry, I worded that awfully the first time around. What I meant is the section under "Why Trext" that slowly reveals a different part of the laptop.

Thanks and good luck! :)

What's the name for this style of background? I've been looking for how to do it, but I have no idea what to even search for. I'm undecided as to whether it's nice or distracting and want to play with it a bit.
Re:Send payouts with Stripe on Wednesday June 05, 2013 @01:37PM (#5827214)
Now that payment processors like Stripe and Balanced are providing very similar services, what serves to differentiate them? As each of these companies release features, they become closer and closer to converging to the exact same product. I'm seeing the same fees, the same abilities to payout, the same ability to act as a marketplace, with only a few very minor differences. Why should someone pick Stripe over Balanced, or vice versa?
