News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Seems like a skill issue. You could have had it create documentation along the way. The idea that prompts can't be versioned or iterated is patently false. Anything in the repo can be versioned.
Everything I've ready points to the same.

Claude 4.6 has likely become a distilled version of it's former self.
Re:A lot of population numbers are fake on Thursday January 29, 2026 @10:24AM (#46811432)
I don't trust China's population numbers at all. Officially before the one child policy they were at 800 million. After 30 years of 1 child policy somehow they were at 1.2 billion. The math isn't mathing. How do you have explosive population growth when birth control is brutally enforced?

The official fertility rates for that period was 1.3. For reference: 2.1 is the replacement rate.

If anything their total population went down during one child policy.

Thank you for that. That's great advice.
Re:Ask HN: Should I open source my video game? on Saturday October 18, 2025 @08:21PM (#45631289)
Honestly, I'm not really sure.

I assume regret. Perhaps someone else will take it and finish it release it on steam and make bank. Who knows.

Part of the reason of asking the question is I was hoping to hear from other people who have done something similar so they can share their experience and feelings on the matter.

Ask HN: Should I open source my video game?

I've been working on and off on a video game in C# and raylib for a while. It's like a vampire survivors like game. There are no true art assets. Everything is text. That and 32 colors and no mouse. In a sense, retro. Having fewer colors made it easier to decide what color to use.Anyway, I've worked on it on and off for well over a year now. At this point, my passion and inspiration has left...

Re:All Estimations Are Wrong, but None Are Useful on Thursday April 03, 2025 @02:44PM (#43573719)
I mean saying ALL estimations are wrong is exaggeration.

As they say, "Even a broken clock is right twice a day"

This has been my experience. I don't disagree with the content of the article, really just the exaggerated title.

Every now and again we do get a 100% correct estimation. It doesn't happen often. In fact it's quite rare. But its more than never.

Re:Windows debloat script made by Microsoft on Thursday April 03, 2025 @02:38PM (#43573647)
I'm not sure I trust Microsoft's take on a debloat script for their own OS.

Sure it will have less stuff, but I suspect there may be some remnants purposefully left behind.

No surprise here.

Certain drugs rely on being chemical broken down into certain things to be absorbed. Gut bacterial help with this process.

Additionally bacteria can release their own byproducts that can function as catalysts or inhibitors.

Is this even legal?
Interesting idea here, but will it pass?
Yeah I have heard both sides of the debate.

Strongest argument for lab leak seems to sourced here:

Also having sound output issues especially with a soundbar. It's kind of sad. I've decided it's better to just not use the soundbar.
I don't think they are going to implement it. It's too juicy financially to do so. Furthermore, it's bad PR to say they aren't going to do it. So they will keep stringing us along as long as they can.

Well, that's what the incentives would suggest.

What the hell does "business event" mean?

Re:Trump Fires Security Chief Christopher Krebs on Wednesday November 18, 2020 @01:16PM (#25140243)
I didn't see anything in the article that attempted to refute his claim that

"Poll watchers [were] not allowed into polling locations"

Its true that we (Americans) don't have a the right to free speech with a private company.

But that doesn't mean we should stop talking about it.

Clearly there is reason to believe people cannot express themselves freely enough.

When all modes of modern communication are privately owned and there are no government run equivalents it does kind limit expression.

Nowadays you are limited to where exactly that you can express yourself within your first amendment rights?

Let's see, a police station, a courthouse, a town hall meeting, and a protest.

Did I miss any?

Nothing on your smart phone that is for sure.

None of these places have reach or exposure equivalent to facebook, twitter, youtube, etc.

Change cannot come if we refuse to acknowledge the existence of a problem. We cannot bring about meaningful change by refusing to talk about an issue.

There are many ways to solve this issue, but ignoring it or saying that all is as intended is not one of them.

We must demand meaningful change from our governments.

In English, as long as you pedometer instead of pedo-meter you shouldn't have any misunderstandings.
Agreed, this is problematic if the executive is compensated primarily in stock options.

Capitalism isn't nor shouldn't be a system of government.

Capitalism is an economic policy.
