I just wanted to thank you for Life, it's incredibly fun to play with it. I love the mobile app to record and then transfer it on desktop to experiment and find fund loops.
For most of my domain TLD, the pricing has doubled.
I am curious what are the radical changes you are thinking about that PHP needs.
I believe Elasticsearch is a trademark.

Re:The SQLite Index Suggester on Tuesday July 05, 2022 @03:33PM (#31992671)
I find it interesting, as recently I was reading about how complex it would/could be to create an index suggester.

Re:Show HN: I ranked news websites by speed on Tuesday June 28, 2022 @03:52PM (#31912208)
I would have ranked the speed by the article's page and not homepages. As most of the users they only see the article's page, that page needs most of the attention. Homepage is usually for the hard users and they wouldn't mind a bit slower page than the article's.
Re:Python Best Practices for a New Project in 2021 on Monday July 05, 2021 @07:08AM (#27736639)
In the article the author mention that VS Code doesn't support Poetry venv. This can be solve by configuring Poetry to create the virtualenvironment directly in the project folder (which in my opinion is neater).

Here is the config https://python-poetry.org/docs/configuration/#virtualenvsin-...

Re:Fastly Outage on Tuesday June 08, 2021 @06:39AM (#27433080)
Arf, thanks for pointing at it, I misread. Sorry.
Re:Fastly Outage on Tuesday June 08, 2021 @06:32AM (#27432990)
Well, not much, I mean all our competitors are also using Fastly. I would be more worried if we were the only one using Fastly and everybody else was fine. But as we are all in the same boat, we lose the same :-)
Re:Messenger API Updates for Europe on Wednesday December 02, 2020 @09:30AM (#25276610)
I am wondering about the same, even though Liechtenstein is mentionned which has the same agreements as CH with Europe.
Well, it's a 4 km distance and according to the schedule of the train it takes 6 minutes between both stations, so it would be an average of 40 km/h (well, you will understand that it is relative as the train has to accelerate and decelerate). Also, some of the portion is in a tunnel, I don't know if this can affect in any way the network.

Framasoft is a French association.
Most of my side projects just lay somewhere because I think a good design can make a difference. So this is really great resources.

Does anybody have experience with https://tailwindui.com/. As dev I like the tailwindcss and the founder released this some time ago and I am wondering if it's worth the price.

There is a graph on the article showing the other JS engines and yes, it parses faster.

Thanks for the information. I read the article but didn't understand it well.

It might be a newbie question, but for my own culture, what is the impact of a given snapshot if the database is really big ?

I guess it all depends on what data we are touching, but let imagine I want to update all the rows for a table with 1 billions entries, wouldn't the snapshot be giantic ?

Or maybe I misunderstood what is a snapshot.

Re:Ask HN: What do you do with your Raspberry Pi? on Monday June 24, 2019 @04:01PM (#20267818)
I have two Raspberry Pi with PiHole (for redundancy) and it works very well.

But still find something a bit annoying and there is little we can do about it.

1. YouTube Ads are still showing up (you need to maintain a list quite often to avoid those ads) 2. To maintain the software (update is simple), but you better update and then back up the SD card and replicate it to the second Raspberry Pi.

In terms of performance, I have not seen anything blocker, no malfunctioning app or the network getting slower. Time-to-time, I got angry wife that cannot click on ad links. :-)

I would say Python
Well, if I have to buy a property in Switzerland, it wouldn't be to make living for ma retirement, but more for not to pay a crazy rent. A property which you rent for 2.2k is easily 1.2k in mortgage, which means if you are a owner, you're making 1k per month and in the top of it, if you play it well, you could lower much more your taxes.

At the end, I pay fewer taxes (I'm not expecting ever to finish paying my property in Switzerland), I pay less rent and I invest more in stocks.

Re:HTTPS on NYTimes.com on Wednesday January 11, 2017 @03:24AM (#13372550)
Well, in our case that was the easiest thing to pick, thanks to the Report-Only option on the CSP header, we enabled it and in about a week, we got all our insecure links and resources.

We could also set a header forcing the browser to upgrade to secure when the resources are in the same domain.

Re:HTTPS on NYTimes.com on Wednesday January 11, 2017 @03:21AM (#13372541)
Nowadays an Ad Server can call another one and so one, due to programmatic. So you might have one Ad server enforcing and serving their tags in HTTPS, but in the end the little local Ad Server which is part of a bigger network doesn't have the HTTPS and so his material isn't delivered.
Re:HTTPS on NYTimes.com on Tuesday January 10, 2017 @05:04PM (#13369573)
For our media website, it took us one year before we could move to HTTPS, mainly because of the AdServers which wasn't ready. We had to talk to each ad provider in order to ask them to upgrade to HTTPS. Unfortunately as media companies have most of their revenue from ads you just can't switch like that.

Also, features that are now available once the HTTPS by default on a website, is the AMP, Notifications, HTTP2 (faster loading) and, of course, the little advantage that Google gives to the HTTPS websites.

The simplest way for us it's to use rsync, there is this service decade old (even more) that is just perfect for the offsite backup. http://rsync.net/index.html

We basically create a backup folder (our assets and MySQL Dump, then rsync it to rsync.net). Our source code is already on git, so basically backuped on Github, and all developers computer.

On top of it, rsynch has a very clear and simple documentation to implement it very quickly with any Linux distrib.

I'm using http://postgresapp.com just because I like the fact to have an App Package :)
Yes, they're. But I'm thinking to change it.

I've also the .io, but I thought about the .co for the "community" or "cooperation" thing. I might change if other people think it's better the .io
